MECC’s first convention off to flying start
Delegates who have registered to be part of Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand Congress 2009 are in for a special treat, as they take part in a history-making event.
As the first-ever convention to take place in the $29million Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC), attendees will walk away with a spectacular vision of what Mackay has to offer and with ever-lasting memories of this state-of-the-art facility.
Now less than two weeks away from its grand opening, Manager Civic Precinct and Events Mark Fawcett said ticket-sales to the congress have so far been exceptional and that excitement is paramount.
“We have it all ready to go – from the latest audiovisual technology and contemporary décor through to exquisite dining selections – and we can’t wait be showcase all this to our event-attendees,” Mr Fawcett said.
“To be the debut-convention in the MECC is an exciting claim, and we expect that 300 congress delegates from October 8 – 11 will have this pleasure,” he said.
“Attendees will be able to partake in a congress with additional comfort and impressive facilities,” Mr Fawcett said.
Themed Regional reality: plan(e)t priority, over the four-days attendees will have access to the BGANZ Congress sessions and social events; to be held between the MECC and the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens.
Mr Fawcett said the MECC is the perfect location for this type of event – offering a number of sustainable environmental strategies in its design.
Topics of discussion will include the growing concern for the planet and its ecosystems because of global warming, climate change, economic insecurity and human impacts on the natural environment.
Regional centres are the ideal location to focus attention on improving the impact of the human footprint on the planet and to recognise the unique role each region can have towards achieving results.
“Council is looking forward to hosting attendees from all across Australia and New Zealand and really highlighting that Mackay is the new event destination – the Mackay region is set to be the ultimate event-hub,” Mr Fawcett said.
