Festival of Arts event deepblue is 100 per cent energy

Audiences are sure to be amazed and inspired by award winning group deepblue the orchestra unleashed this Sunday, July 18 from 7pm at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.

This show which is a part of the 2010 Mackay Region Festival of Arts is for more than just the music lover or budding instrument player – it’s for anyone who wants to experience an unforgettable show that defies explanations or labels.

The 16 strong Brisbane based group have just recently returned from the Shanghai World Expo where they were the star performers representing Queensland in the Australian Pavilion.

One of Australia’s most innovative and brightest up and coming music exports performed to over 54,000 people during their six day stint in Shanghai.

Community Services and Facilities portfolio councillor Karen May said the orchestra’s new show The Dream is a must see for the entire family and to make sure everyone has the chance to attend, MECC is offering discounted family tickets and other early bird tickets if you get in quick.

The Dream follows a young musician’s journey, and explores the fine line between dreams, nightmares and reality.

“deepblue is part band, part orchestra and part theatre so there’s lot going on and will be a definite crowd pleaser,” Cr May said.

“If you find a traditional orchestral performance a bit too long and serious then this event is definitely for you,” she said.

Festival and Events producer David Gerrand said at a deepblue show you can clap, cheer and scream, they want the audience to be entertained and feel involved, they even want them to text them during the show to see how you want the show to finish.

“Audience members are guaranteed to be taken on an unforgettable journey through a visual and aural experience with moving images, music and performances,” he said.

There’s no conductor, there’s no music stands and no rules, it’s all about performing and allowing the audience to get a more intimate sense of music.

Taking elements of traditional orchestra with the immersive sound, visual and lighting, performer interaction, and diverse repertoire, the intention of deepblue is to be more an experience than a performance.

In conjunction with the show deepblue are offering its youngblue program where local musicians are given the opportunity to perform on stage with the group during the concert.

The group also conducts one hour music and performance workshops so if there’s a young musician in your family go to www.youngblue.net.au to find out more.
